MP4 on Xbox 360

So far, in the Year of Living Digitally, the Xbox is winning as the interface between Internet television and my television set. Of course, iTV has not come out yet. In keeping with the legal meme in this blog, here are the ways I’ve found, so far, to view MP4s on the Xbox 360.

Option #1 - Use Your Zune. As mentioned earlier, MP4 files “synced” to your Zune are actually converted to WMV - which works great on the Xbox. Plug your Zune into your Xbox and you can click your way to pure viewing pleasure.

Option #2 - Use Heywatch.com to convert files from MP4 to WMV. Works like a charmer.

Option #3 - Give Encode 360 a try. Haven’t personally done this myself but it sure looks clean and easy.

Option #4 - Set up a TVersity Server. I will be doing this very soon - stay tuned.

I have tried the TVersity and no go. I have even tried Medic Center connection. The simple straight answer here is that XBOX360, being a Microsoft product will not support MP4. They want you to use WMV. I guess Microsoft just doesn’t want you to ba able to play different videos, just thier codec. Typical Microsoft. Hold out for iTV in March if you are an MP4 lover as I am!
