Akimbo Xbox

The Good News: Akimbo for Media Center plays very nicely with the Xbox as Media Center Extender. You can’t “tell” the content is coming from across the house, previously downloaded, etc. Both my Wife an Father-In-Law were impressed with the results as we watched a documentary last night.

The Bad News: The Akimbo for Media Center interface is a bit too much. 1) You can’t get the videos in your “My Video” area (and for those who complain about DRM destroys those options, do know that I can get my Amazon Unbox content in there. 2) You have to enter a pin code every time you want to watch something. Yes, I know this is to keep the kids away from the dirty stuff but finally 3) When running through the channels, you got Naked News, National Geographic, and Mystique in a row. Got no problem with Adult content for those who want it - but for those who don’t, don’t stick it in my face. Sure, it won’t let my kids download Naked News but I don’t really want to answer the question to my 1st grader (who can read quite well) of why someone might have Naked News in the first place.

Great idea - the interface needs help.
