Unbox on Xbox - But Not The Media Center Extender
Posted on 7:01 pm by Paul ColliganSetup was easy but there is a, as far as I can tell, undocumented anywhere at Microsoft, Media Center Extender Manager software program (under Accessories none the less?) where you have to setup any additional Media Extenders. As a Geek, this came “fairly” natural to me but I can’t imagine how the average person could have ever figured that out.
But here is the frustrating part - the Amazon Unbox service - which works like a charmer through Xbox as Media Center Extender doesn’t work with the Linksys Media Extender WMCE54AG. Don’t know if this is something fixed in later versions, or Vista, but what I got today ain’t working.
So movie rentals watched in bed will have to wait.
Only 4 days away until the possible release of iTV.
I’ll give the full review in a couple of days - when I have time to put it through the ringer.

Have you checked that it has the latest firmware?
At launch the Linksys extenders were unable to stream ‘protected’ copyright, such as TV shows where the broadcaster had set the copy-protection flag (HBO etc).
This was fixed in a downloadable firmware release sometime at the end of 2004. It might not help, but it certainly sounds related!

Andrew, will look into it - thanks for the tip.
And will, obviously, comment accordingly.

On the XBOX media extender are you using the xbox 360 or the previous model? I am having trouble streaming unbox videos on mce2005 pc to the xbox w/extender. I can view the recorded shows on my pc but nothing else.
thanks,
