Will They Listen to Audiobooks?

I’m having a blast with this experiment. My family is watching less tv - but even more importantly, … we’re choosing … planning what we’re going to consume … and we’re better for it.

This morning the girls each purchased a show from iTunes (Apple TV can’t come soon enough). They were episodes they haven’t seen before. Not massive repeats - something new, refreshing (played on the TV via my Video iPod).

As they watch, I have to ask myself this question. The 6 year old is reading more than ever and the three year old just isn’t there yet. What about audiobooks? eMedia Marketplace has Bob the Builder as a spoken word drama. Would they enjoy that? What about something bigger and bolder - like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Tom Sawyer?

Yeah, I’ll be trying that too!

My experience of audio books began recently when I bought an audio books franchise. Now I’m hooked and wrote a review of my experience here: http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Joys-of-Listening-to-Books&id=409386

If your children start young, they’ll find audio much better than reading, however, they will need to make sure they can read well also. At their age, it would be a bad move for them to focus on audio and neglect their reading wouldn’t it?
