Walmart Enters The Game - It Will Only Get Better

So the New York Times tells us that Wal-Mart is entering the video download game. You can follow the significant blogosphere chatter here.

First of all - they got ALL 6 STUDIOS - including Disney.) I can’t imagine Jobs is thrilled with that but it will be nice to have some competitive prices on the downloable Disney stuff.) In plain English this means that they’ll be as big and have as many titles (if not more) than Apple.

In terms of what initial price-cutting this will bring, we have this quote: “Download prices will be $12.88 to $19.88 on the day of the DVD release; older movies will start at $7.50 and TV shows at $1.96 an episode.” Nothing that significant.

I’ll bet big money this won’t work on my (yet to arrive) Apple TV - making my Media Center PC / Xbox 360 combo that much more attractive. No word yet if the stuff will work on Media Center Extenders - but it would be stupid for Walmart to ignore that channel.

And Walmart, my friends, has seldom been called stupid.

Many times has Walmart been called and proven to be stupid. Just look at their latest 10-Q under - Contingencies.

Walmart’s move into the movie download arena may have been a very huge misstep. I think you will see yet another lawsuit filed against Walmart and maybe the studios as well.
